Rules

Dumb Charades rules for two players

Dumb Charades is the film-guessing game of every family get-together: act out a title without saying a word. On Twine one of you acts on camera and the other guesses from their own phone. It's free.

Setup

How a round works

  1. You take turns acting, one film at a time: five films each, ten in all.
  2. The actor has a minute. No talking and no lip-reading. Show the number of words on your fingers, then which word you're on, lay fingers on your arm for syllables, and tug your ear for sounds like.
  3. The guesser types guesses, or says them on the call and the actor taps Got it.
  4. A typed guess ignores capitals, punctuation and the words the, a and an, and forgives a slip of the thumb in a longer title. For a title of three words or more, its initials count too. A near miss shows Close!
  5. The film ends when it's guessed, when the actor passes, or when the minute runs out.
  6. No camera, or no picture coming through? Act it out on your call instead. Got it and Pass still work.

Scoring and winning

Play it with your partner on Twine

Twine picks the films, runs the clock and keeps the score. Get on a call with your partner and start Dumb Charades from either phone.

Questions

Can you talk in Dumb Charades?

No. The actor gets a film across with gestures only: no words, and no mouthing them either.

How long do you get for each film?

One minute. If it isn't guessed by then, the film is over and the next one comes up.

Do I have to type the title exactly?

No. Capitals, punctuation and the, a and an don't matter, a small typo in a longer title is forgiven, and a long title's initials count too. You can also just say it on the call and the actor taps Got it.

What if my camera doesn't work?

Keep playing. Act it out on your call instead; your partner guesses on Twine as usual.

Is Dumb Charades free on Twine?

Yes. Dumb Charades is one of Twine's free games.
