Rules

Indian Rummy rules for two players

Indian Rummy is the 13-card rummy with a wild joker. Group every card into sequences and sets, with at least one pure sequence, and declare before your opponent does.

Setup

How a round works

  1. On your turn, draw one card from the closed pile or the open pile, then discard one. You can't pick a joker or a wild card up from the open pile, and you can't throw back a card you just took from it.
  2. Sequences are three or more cards in a row in one suit; the ace can be low or high. A pure sequence uses no joker. Sets are three or four of one rank, each a different suit.
  3. Printed jokers and wild cards can stand in for any card in a sequence or set.
  4. Declare when all thirteen cards are grouped, with at least two sequences and at least one of them pure. You discard one card and show the rest; Twine only lets you declare a hand that is valid.
  5. Before you draw, you can drop instead: 20 points if you haven't drawn yet this deal, 40 if you have. Your opponent wins the deal.

Questions

What is a pure sequence?

Three or more cards in a row, in one suit, with no joker standing in. You need at least one to declare.

How does the cut joker work?

A card is turned up at the deal, and every card of that rank becomes wild. If it's a printed joker, the aces are wild.

How many points is a drop?

Twenty if you drop before drawing any card that deal, forty after.

What is the most you can lose in a deal?

Eighty points.
